72% of Ghanaians Support 24-Hour Economy as Key Job Creation Strategy – KPMG-UNDP Pre-Budget Survey

72% of Ghanaians Support 24-Hour Economy as Key Job Creation Strategy – KPMG-UNDP Pre-Budget Survey—–Ahead of the presentation of the 2025 main budget and economic policy under the new administration, a survey by KPMG and the United Nations Development Programe (UNDP) has revealed that the implementation of the flagship 24-hour economy is highly regarded by many Ghanaians as a viable strategy to create jobs.

Although the introduction of the flagship 24-hour economy campaign promise ahead of the 2024 Elections resulted in a heated debate over its viability, the recent pre-budget survey has revealed that Ghanaians are buying into the idea as a critical initiative to generate employment and reduce joblessness.

The survey report cited by Brand Focus Africa disclosed that a whopping 72% of the respondents expressed confidence in the policy.

The survey was undertaken ahead of the crucial budget to gauge the public perception of the policy among other key issues expected in the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy.

An overwhelming 69.3% of the respondents indicated that job creation is the main reason for supporting the initiative while just 7.9% also believed it could potentially increase productivity and efficiency.

However, only 9% of the respondents either disagreed or strongly disagreed with the potential of the policy to create employment opportunities.

“72 of respondents agree the policy will create jobs, with a combined 9% either disagreeing or strongly disagreeing,” portion of the report indicated.

For the policy yield the intended outcomes of jobs creation, the respondents further listed some conditions needed to be implemented to make the policy effective and successful.

Central to these measures is improvement in security and public safety. Ensuring reliable electricity supply also featured prominently when enhanced public transportation system was also highlighted.

Other crucial factors identified include tax incentives for businesses, strengthening infrastructure, implementation of flexible labor policies, promotion of digital and cashless payment systems, and collaboration with the private sector.

This high support for the policy and the accompanied measures to make it successful means Ghanaians and all other stakeholders will be very keen on how the budget set to be presented on March 11, 2025 will address these key concerns.
