Ghana Link Network Services Ltd, operators of the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) has dismissed reports suggesting that the weighbridge system at the Tema Port are non-operational.
According to Ghana Link, the weighbridges were fully functional at the time of the visit by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, and the Minister for Transport, Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe.
The company clarified that the ministers’ concerns were about enforcement, not the functionality of the system.
Ghana Link explained that Mr. Nikpe had observed some trucks bypassing the weighbridges and sought clarification on why not all vehicles were being weighed. In response, the company stated that the process is still in a piloting phase, allowing for a gradual transition to full implementation while ensuring a free flow of traffic at the port.

Regarding the management of overloaded vehicles, Ghana Link noted that Customs is working with the Ghana Highway Authority and Port Authorities to develop a seamless data-sharing mechanism on axle weight compliance. This collaboration is expected to enhance enforcement once the system is fully operational.
Ghana Link reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and compliance within Ghana’s trade and logistics sector. The company urged media outlets to ensure accuracy in their reports to avoid misinformation that could undermine public confidence in national infrastructure initiatives.
