Ghanaian highlife singer, songwriter, and producer Kuami Eugene has expressed disappointment in the promotional efforts of gospel musician Joyce Blessing for her hit song Victory. In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Kuami Eugene remarked that Joyce Blessing’s promotional work did not match the song’s potential.
Reflecting on the song’s rollout, Kuami Eugene stated, “I think Joyce Blessing didn’t do as much as Empress Gifty is doing [with Watch Me]. I am just being real. I love Auntie Joyce so much, but I don’t think she did justice to the song like Empress is doing.” He continued, “Empress has taken it personal. From a writer’s perspective, there is a lot of respect attached to it. She is singing it everywhere, she is posting everybody.”
Victory, which was released in 2023, was written, composed, and produced by Kuami Eugene for Joyce Blessing. Despite the initial success of the track, Kuami noted that Joyce Blessing’s promotional efforts waned after the song began to gain traction, saying, “At the beginning, after she put it out there and it was going viral, she did well, but after December, that was it for her.”
In contrast, Kuami Eugene praised Empress Gifty for her relentless promotion of her own song Watch Me. He commended her for the energy and dedication she has shown in ensuring the song reaches a wider audience, remarking, “It’s been almost a month, and it doesn’t look like Empress Gifty is stopping anytime soon. She’s been everywhere; she’s been to Kumasi, Eastern Region. I think it is something we should really learn.”
Kuami Eugene, who has earned acclaim as a talented songwriter, emphasized the importance of continuous promotion for a song’s success. He pointed out that Empress Gifty’s commitment has set an example for artists in the industry, highlighting how her persistent efforts are paying off in maintaining the momentum for her song.
Apart from Victory, Kuami Eugene has written songs for several notable Ghanaian artists, including MzVee, Kwame Yogot, and Empress Gifty herself, solidifying his reputation as a versatile and influential figure in the music industry.
Joyce Blessing previously revealed in an interview that Kuami Eugene also played the role of creative director for the Victory music video, underscoring his deep involvement in the song’s production.
As one of Ghana’s most sought-after musicians and songwriters, Kuami Eugene’s candid remarks about song promotion serve as valuable insights into what it takes to sustain a hit in the competitive music scene.
