Adopted at a young age by a French diplomat stationed in Ghana, he moved to France, where he embraced his new identity and immersed himself in football. Desailly began his professional career with FC Nantes in 1986, spending six years with the club before moving to Olympique de Marseille. He was a pivotal figure in Marseille’s historic 1993 UEFA Champions League victory, making them the first and only French club to win the competition.
In 1994, Desailly transferred to AC Milan, where he solidified his reputation as one of the world’s elite defenders. During his time in Italy, he won two Serie A titles and another UEFA Champions League in 1994, becoming the first player to win back-to-back titles with two different clubs.
