The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has announced a grand celebration of its 50th anniversary in 2025, featuring an all-women music festival as one of the main highlights. The Golden Jubilee launch, held on November 7, 2024, at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, was led by MUSIGA President Bessa Simons, who detailed the lineup of events set for next year.
Activities planned for the milestone celebration include a series of concerts featuring both local and international artists, lectures, symposiums, and a gala dinner. But perhaps the most unique event is the all-women festival, which aims to spotlight female musicians globally and foster cross-cultural collaboration in the music industry.
“One big thing is going to happen, and that is we are going to have an all-women festival,” Simons announced. He extended an invitation to female musicians worldwide, encouraging self-sponsored participation from international artists. MUSIGA plans to publicize the event through embassies worldwide, inviting women to Ghana to join in the celebration and perform.
The festival will include a blend of outdoor and indoor concerts, as well as church programs. MUSIGA hopes to feature prominent international acts, such as Cece Winans, alongside Ghanaian artists to promote harmony and collaboration.
Founded on December 9, 1975, MUSIGA has spent five decades championing the rights of musicians, advancing Ghana’s music industry, and preserving the nation’s musical heritage. This Golden Jubilee celebration serves as a testament to its lasting impact and dedication to Ghana’s musical legacy.
