Paa Kwesi Nduom Considers Exiting Elmina Sharks Over Investment and Hooliganism Worries

The owner of Division One League side Elmina Sharks, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has expressed his intention to step away from managing the club, citing ongoing challenges that make the venture unworthy of his continued investment.

Nduom’s remarks come in the wake of controversy surrounding his team after players and officials allegedly assaulted a referee during their league match against Swedru All Blacks on Sunday, February 16.

In an interview, Nduom distanced himself from the blame regarding the incident while revealing his growing frustration with running the club.

“I am considering whether to even continue on having this team as part of the league. It isn’t worth it. I don’t do it for money. I don’t do it for anything else. We do it for opportunities,” he said. “We have players who are playing in Egypt and other places. They are doing well and have money. Do we have to suffer these sorts of indignities?”

Nduom also called on the football governing body, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to take responsibility for recent hooliganism in Ghana’s football. He criticized the GFA for not ensuring safety and integrity in matches, particularly after chaos during a Division One League game where players attacked officials following a controversial penalty.

The match ended in a 1-0 victory for All Blacks, but post-game chaos dominated headlines after referee Eso Doh Morrison’s final whistle. Players and officials of Elmina Sharks reportedly attacked the referee and other match officials over a penalty decision that ultimately secured the away team all three points.
