The National President of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, Wepia Awal Adugwala, has expressed optimism about the government‘s ability to produce sufficient raw materials to support agro-based industries. He believes the Deputy Minister-Designate for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, will play a key role in achieving this goal.
Adugwala is also confident that Dumelo’s experience in farming will aid in the implementation of President Mahama‘s 24-hour economy policy within the agricultural sector. He emphasized Dumelo’s potential to empower smallholder farmers to produce enough raw materials to sustain agro-industrial growth.
The Peasant Farmers Association President also welcomed President Mahama‘s decision to nominate John Dumelo for the deputy ministerial position, noting that the association has long advocated for leadership in the ministry to be given to individuals with direct experience in agriculture.

“We have always pushed for leaders in the ministry who have firsthand knowledge of farmers’ challenges. With John Dumelo being a farmer himself, we believe he understands the difficulties faced by farmers,” Adugwala said.
Additionally, Adugwala expressed hope that Dumelo’s youthful energy and influence would attract more young people to farming. He emphasized the need to leverage technology to modernize agriculture, making it more accessible and productive for the country’s youth.
“Given his youthful nature, we expect policies that will attract the youth to agriculture, using technology to ensure 21st-century farming becomes easier and more productive for the younger generation,” Adugwala added.
