Tema Customs Division Surpasses Expectations with GH¢7.9 Billion Q1 Revenue

Tema Customs Division Surpasses Expectations with GH¢7.9 Billion Q1 Revenue—-The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at Tema has recorded a strong revenue performance in the first quarter of 2025, collecting over GH¢7.9 billion in import duties, marking a significant 43% increase compared to the same period last year.

Sector Commander, Assistant Commissioner Theresa Potakey, who made this known, emphasized the division’s commitment to exceeding its annual revenue target.

“Since the beginning of the year, we have already collected GH¢7.9 billion while awaiting our target for the year,” she said.

She added that it represented a 43.22% increase from last year’s figures for the same period, hence, the Authority remains dedicated to surpassing its revenue expectations.

Mrs. Potakey made these remarks during a visit by the Acting Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Sarpong, who encouraged the Tema Customs team to intensify efforts in domestic revenue mobilization.

Last year, the Tema Customs Division was responsible for collecting 82.09% of the total customs revenue, contributing GH¢36.86 billion, an achievement that exceeded its target by 8.6%.

Mrs. Potakey stressed the need for additional resources to enhance operations and further boost revenue collection.

“Given that Tema Customs generates the majority of customs revenue, it is crucial that the division is adequately resourced,” she noted.

This year, the Tema Customs Division has been assigned a minimum revenue target of GH¢60 billion as part of the GRA’s overall revenue goal of GH¢200 billion for 2025.
